Established on the 1st of July in the year 1974, The Illinois State Lottery or simply the Illinois Lottery was one of the most anticipated formations in the state of Illinois by its people. It started off by selling passive games through weekly drawings and it gradually caught on to make great revenue with the years that progressed. The first year itself, it made a whopping $129 million! But soon enough because of the lack of excitement and it being so aloof from entertainment and excitement, the Lottery lost its initial charm. But in the year 1980, Illinois introduced Pick 3 game to the Illinois Lottery. Pick 3 helped the Illinois Lottery pick up its shattered pieces from the ground and start fresh, retaining its lost charm back. The Illinois Lottery is owned by the Government of the Illinois state, United States of America and comes under the Northstar Lottery Group.
Like many other state Lotteries of the United States of America, the Illinois Lottery also works to improve and fund the education system of the state of Illinois. Initially, when the Illinois Lottery began functioning, the profits that the lottery make went into the pockets of the Illinois State’s General Revenue Fund. But in the year 1985, a legislation was passed stating that the profits that the Illinois Lottery makes must go to the Common School Fund. The Illinois Lottery still makes sure to give away most of their profits for the Common School Fund’s sake and that is the Illinois Lottery’s major mission.
Ever since it was established the Illinois Lottery was always an independent cabinet-level department. It did, however, operate under the Department of Revenue for two occasions separately. In the year 2011, the Illinois Lottery bade goodbye to the Department of Revenue on October 5. Currently, the Illinois Lottery operates with a number of 152 employees with an impressive functioning budget of $30 million annually. Like mentioned above, the Northstar Lottery Group is the private manager of the Illinois Lottery. So 80 employees among the 152 employees work under the Northstar Lottery Group under the Illinois Lottery. Lotto and Mega Millions were the first ever online sales projects launched by the Illinois Lottery with the help and support of the Northstar Lottery Group in the year 2012, on March 25. And ever since then, the Illinois Lottery went down in history to become the first every state lottery of the United States of America to sell its game tickets online or on the internet.
